Best-Rated Running Shoes Help Prevent injuries!

Running shoes are THE most important tool to helping you finish your first marathon.

There are a lot of running shoe brands to try on, but don’t make the mistake of picking solely on the name itself. It must fit your foot and your running style.

Yes, the color might go fantastic with the new shorts you just bought, but don’t come crawling back to me when you have shin splits or huge blisters keeping you from your perfect stride.

Some of them include Saucony, New Balance and Mizuno (my favorite).

Marathon Running Shoes Anatomy

Plan on paying between $80 and $120. Before I found my favorite pair, I was hitting the road with the clunkiest cross trainers known to man. I had shin splints like you couldn’t imagine and had no clue what was up… but they looked great!

Luckily, my wife, a long-distance runner through college (once ranked 15th in D2 NCAA), came a long and basically told me I was wearing the equivalent of concrete blocks.

She introduced me to my “zen” shoe — the Mizuno Waverider 9. I even bought the Waverider 10 when it came out last year, which helped me train and finish my first marathon.

There are four classifications to choose from, but first, a very important definition of pronation a.k.a. when your foot rolls inward too much while striking the ground. Or supination when your foot doesn’t roll in enough.

If you don’t get the proper pair, you could have some very painful joints and shins ahead of you. You could also get Plantar Fasciitis – where the ligament that runs along your heel bone to the ball of your foot inflames and part of it starts to tear away. NOT FUN!

A good pair will make training and the race comfortable for your feet, legs and body while helping to prevent injuries.
