GPS Running Watches Speed, Distance, Pace, Oh My!
GPS running watches are great for tracking speed, distance, pace, time and laps. Systems like the Garmin Forerunner 205 ($199) have virtual running settings that allow you to compete against your previous personal records. It also has a multi-sport function that allows you to track different sports like cycling. It also has built in memory so you can review and analyze your training runs and compare. You can use Garmin's software to download your results and analyze your pace, time and distance, etc. with different interactive graphs. It's a pretty cool piece of technology.
Suunto Running Watches The Suunto T4 ($300) seems to be getting some pretty good reviews. It's fairly accurate with the GPS foot pod and tracks just about the same info as Garmin's does. I think you'll find that Suunto is a great option, but might have too many features for a beginner.
Both are running watches with heart rate monitor and are probably the best watches for running. I'd also like to point out that there are a lot of great Nike running watches, but without GPS. However, just like my iPod setup, they still record all of the important info like distance, time and pace.
